When should you schedule your bridal trial?

What is a bridal trial? And why do I need one?

You’ve picked the perfect person. Picked a date and booked a gorgeous venue. You said, “Yes to the dress” and hired the photographer of your dreams. You have found a makeup artist and stylist who will help you look and feel your absolute best. But, how can you ensure that your wedding day glam is going to be everything you have imagined? This is where a bridal trial comes into play!

A trial is essentially a “trial run” of your hair and makeup for the big day. A trial can help eliminate the stress and help you look your absolute best on your wedding day. Also, it is loads of fun to get glammed up for the day! We love when our brides use their trial for a shower or bachelorette party.

Now, when should you actually schedule your bridal trial? I schedule my bridal trials 4-8 weeks from your wedding day. This ensures your artist still has your gorgeous glam fresh in their head and your wedding look and goals will not be changing too much. When you schedule too far in advance, it can be more difficult as your skin tone, hair color or length may change and all those things can play a part. Try and get it on your artists calendar as soon as possible so you are able to get the date and time you need. Artists schedules can book up quick so its good to get it on the books as soon as you can.

Here are some tips to get the absolute most out of you trial

  1. Schedule it on a day you are doing something fun! Like your shower or even a special date night with your partner.

  2. Bring examples of looks that you love. When you look at these pictures, think about why it is you love it. Is it the exact look you’re going for or is it the colors that are used? Is it the smoked out eyeliner? These details will help you and your artist narrow down exactly what it is you are looking for. Keep in mind that you may love a look you found online, but your artist might have an idea of a similar style that might be a better fit so try to keep an open mind!

  3. Wear your dress color and mimic the neckline if you can. It will help you envision yourself on your special day! E.g. Wear a white top with a V-neckline.

  4. Bring any hair accessories and extensions to your appointment so your hairstylist can really create a perfect day of style.

  5. Try and schedule your makeup and hair trial on the same day to get the whole look in one!

  6. Do not be shy! If you don’t love an aspect of your look, let your artist know! I know for me, I am so happy to adjust things so my bride feels confident that I will help her achieve her wedding day goals. Also, if you love something, let your artist know. Nothing helps your artist feel happier than their bride absolutely loving their look!

I hope you feel more confident and ready to show up to your trial! If you’re looking for a makeup artists let me know, I would love to help.
